First Visit: What to Expect
Learn what to expect during your first visit to our maxillo facial clinic in Montreal.
During an initial consultation with an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, they will begin by gathering detailed medical information about your overall health, medical and dental history, as well as any specific condition for which you are seeking consultation. The surgeon will perform a physical examination of your face, mouth, and maxillofacial region to assess the health of these structures. This may include visual inspection, palpation, and other diagnostic tests if necessary. Based on the medical history and physical examination, the surgeon will discuss their assessment and diagnosis with you. They will explain the nature of your condition, its implications, and the available treatment options.
The surgeon will propose a treatment plan tailored to your specific situation. This may include surgical and non-surgical treatment options, as well as the benefits, risks, and alternatives associated with each option. You will have the opportunity to ask questions about your condition, the proposed treatment, the surgical process, the recovery period, expected outcomes, and any other concerns you may have. If you decide to proceed with the proposed treatment, the surgeon will discuss the next steps with you, including scheduling appointments, pre-surgical preparations (if applicable), and post-operative instructions.
